Safari kit

Pack for the jungle

The few things that make a 5 a.m. jeep ride far better.

Before you go

Book permits early

Core-zone jeep slots for Corbett, Ranthambore and Bandhavgarh often sell out weeks ahead in peak season.

Wear the forest's colours

Olive, khaki and brown. Skip white, red and perfume, and keep your voice low.

Go morning and evening

Animals move most at dawn and dusk. Doing two or three drives raises your sighting odds a lot.
